Cause both those shows suck maybe? Though granted the main reason why I didn't give more Rugrats Grown Up a chance, even though I used to watch the original, is cause I guess I was growing out of some cartoons. I never could stand Dora though. I was definitely too old for that show when the original even premiered. Bottom line though, it's all about audience and execution.

But I digress.

Sudden thought about the NightFury that's kind of on topic, why do some fan characters have glowing markings? Granted it's been a while since I watched anything HTTYD related, but I don't recall ever hearing or seeing of Toothless with glowy neon colors. There's also the other colored fan Furys that bother me. The only thing about the description that I can remember says something about them being dark creatures (most likely to blend in with their nocturnal activities [and to be more on topic], most likely the reason why no other furies are ever SEEN).

I don't know either, but Toothless did have glowing green eyes. And Night Furies are black so they can blend in with the night sky, hence the name, Night Fury. And the Vikings added the Fury cuz *it (*Night Fury) never missed when it shot a blast, and it never showed itself (The Vikings came up with names for everything they didn't know about).

^ That's what I thought. Don't get me wrong, the neon markings are more than pretty, but I don't think they're canon so they just really bother me. Those and the white, brown, green, etc, NFs. 8/

EXACTLY. Though there is an issue with making a unique fury character when Toothless is the only example there is. And even with the other dragon breeds, they really all look alike. Unless the marking and colors are different, but even then they still look really similar.

Yeah, but if I were to make a dragon, I wouldn't try to copy a dragon from HTTYD, I would design my own. Like, the body and head shape is different. I have like a bazillion different dragon sketches that look nothing like HTTYD Dragons.

I've wondered about the different colors myself. A friend of mine made a Night Fury picture for me as a gift, and I really want to make a profile for it, but I'm at a loss as to the markings. I considered the red marks being scars, except they resemble natural marks rather than scars.

I suppose I could have them be something that comes and goes with seasons like some animal markings in the real world.

You should make them scars cuz Hiccup has a scar so they'll be alike.

Well if he or she has a rider, maybe they favor war paint if you catch my drift. Just an idea. 8)

Also, toothless had some markings, like hollow squigly spots, if you look closely. So, night furies definetly have markings, but toothless' were just a slighlt different shade of black. And since we dont know anything about night furies, we dint know if the markings could be different colors, ot if night furies can be different colors in general. I'd say go for it.

^ I really think those "markings" are actually just shading...

And it still doesn't make sense to me for furys to have markings. If they're hunters that use night and the advantage of flight to hunt, how would markings help with that?

Not all characteristics have a positive influence on the organism. Some are negative or neutral. The markings are probably a mutation once upon a time, and it didn't really affect the night fury's camouflage or anything since it is such a subtle shade difference.
And the markings are visible throughout the movie if you are looking for them, always in the same place on his sides. If it was shading it would change with the type of lighting and the angle and such.

^Yeah, Toothless has a scar just like Hiccup's just below his chin. It's not shading.

So what do you guys think of Night Furies being different colors? I think it would be interesting they were different colors, and their color determined how they hunted.

I would like other colors. They are Night Furies for a reason. They only hunt at night. So if one was, say, red, it couldn't hunt at night. I would like it - just my opinion.
