So - What would you, personally, change about All Dogs Go To Heaven?
By asking what you would change about the film, I mean things like the names of the characters, the setting, the personalities and actions of characters, more screen time or less screen time, alternate ending, etc.
This topic is only so that ADGTH fans can share what they think would make the film better in their opinion. I think that this topic is very interesting and I really want to know what you guys would change about it - and I'm sure that some of you have some good ideas out there ^^
I, personally, would change the city that All Dogs Go To Heaven takes place in. Why, you ask? The reason I would want to change New Orleans, Louisiana is because I do not think that the city fits with the film. Ever since I was little, I just haven't been able to piece together the setting with the plot.
Does anyone else agree with me?
Since I would be changing the New Orleans to something else, what would I change it to? I personally think that Harlem, New York would make a perfect setting for this film. Why would I pick such a random location? Well - a couple of days ago, I was watching the movie Harlem Nights (Which ironically was released the same year as All Dogs Go To Heaven; 1989) and realized how well it would fit with ADGTH. The setting of Harlem Nights is in 1938, one year before the setting of ADGTH takes place in 1939.
How well does Harlem Nights fit with ADGTH?
- Murder/Crime
- Mafia (Relates to Carface and his gang)
- Lots of Gambling
- Alcohol and Smoking is popular
- The personalities of a lot of the characters in HN are similar to characters in ADGTH
Does anyone else agree with me now?
This is quite interesting. I've never thought about the set that much when i was a child, because i didn't know american cities at all. I had the same problem connecting the different sets, but, again, i think it was just a lack of knowledge.
Now i would probably go for a big metropoly, where you could find all the features you've listed. It would help characterise the character in a deeper way.
On the other hand, though, i would choose San Francisco just to have a connection with the second movie.
I would avoid having the gator and all the related scenes. I know it becomes quite important at the end, but there could surely be a different one. I also though Carface's death was quite ridiculous: it seems there's no connection with the film's general mood. He could have just died as Charlie did.
