So - What would you, personally, change about All Dogs Go To Heaven?

By asking what you would change about the film, I mean things like the names of the characters, the setting, the personalities and actions of characters, more screen time or less screen time, alternate ending, etc.

This topic is only so that ADGTH fans can share what they think would make the film better in their opinion. I think that this topic is very interesting and I really want to know what you guys would change about it - and I'm sure that some of you have some good ideas out there ^^

I, personally, would change the city that All Dogs Go To Heaven takes place in. Why, you ask? The reason I would want to change New Orleans, Louisiana is because I do not think that the city fits with the film. Ever since I was little, I just haven't been able to piece together the setting with the plot.

Does anyone else agree with me?

Since I would be changing the New Orleans to something else, what would I change it to? I personally think that Harlem, New York would make a perfect setting for this film. Why would I pick such a random location? Well - a couple of days ago, I was watching the movie Harlem Nights (Which ironically was released the same year as All Dogs Go To Heaven; 1989) and realized how well it would fit with ADGTH. The setting of Harlem Nights is in 1938, one year before the setting of ADGTH takes place in 1939.

How well does Harlem Nights fit with ADGTH?

- Murder/Crime
- Mafia (Relates to Carface and his gang)
- Lots of Gambling
- Alcohol and Smoking is popular
- The personalities of a lot of the characters in HN are similar to characters in ADGTH

Does anyone else agree with me now?

Like, have more characters who did good things and helped the main characters rather than bad and joined Carface's gang?

I'd get rid of the Big Lipped Alligator. That character just seems out of place, except at the very end of the movie.

When Charlie and Anne Marie fell through the floor at that shop: besides of them being carried away, I'd have them try and find away out after they find Charlie's watch, and when they make it back to the streets, Anne Marie sits down and tells Charlie she's not feeling well. Charlie proceeds to carry her back to the church, and during the scene you see him begin to have doubts. And while Flo tells Charlie, Anne Marie needs a doctor, Flo can ask Charlie why he took the child away from the wallet family, which could lead into a moment of silence before Itchy arrives.

When it comes to the whole fight scene, here's what I'd change: besides of having the Big Lipped Alligator save Charlie, I'd have Killer. While Charlie fights Carface's gang, you see Killer watch it, then look at Anne Marie and he shakes his head in disgust. Then when Carface and Charlie go at it, Killer tries to free Anne Marie but fails, which leads to the cage falling into the water. After Carface falls into the water is when you see an alligator, and that proceeds to the end of Carface.

I didn't really care too much for All Dogs Go to Heaven, the original. I liked the second much better. I guess the truth is I didn't like Charlie at all being as he was so selfish and just used others. And it's not even that so much as I guess the whole theme of it.

I can't think of anything specific I'd change, but I guess it'd be a lot of things. One thing I do remember is that I wish he could have told Itchy about him before he left back to heaven, but oh well. Lots of other things that I can't really seem to place since I 1) haven't watched the movie in an extremely long time and don't really plan to & 2) There'd be a lot of the stuff anyways.

This, 100%. The alligator was useless and weird and just.. ruined the film - and the reason ADGTH isn't one of my favourite films. Your idea is so much better than the film's.

Heh, really? That was the main reason I hated the sequel - how much Charlie's awesomeness was ruined. He was too nice in the sequel. Still using people.. but for stupid reasons. The only good thing about him was his voice actor, Charlie Sheen, because he also plays Charlie from Two and a Half Men.

Haha, really good idea! I don't think many people liked the Alligator to be honest, he was too random and colorful and strange to be in the movie. I like the Killer part too, and it explains why he was the one to push Anne Marie to shore.

I'm a stickler for small detail. I thoroughly love ALGTH the original, but I dislike some of the out of place cuts that are part of the movie. Most specifically, the scene right after "You Can't Keep A Good Dog Down" when itchy goes through the secret door in the wall. The weird swirly cut they use to go to the next scene is completely out of place, and it the only time in the film that happens. Also, when Charlie goes out and buys Ann Marie clothes with the race track winnings, how come after that point she still chooses to dress in the rags we originally see her in.

Also, I agree with everyone. The flamboyant gator has got to go. Let Killer have his moment of glory and try to save Ann Marie

I wouldn't take anything away from it. I rather love the movie that way it is. I would however, like to see some more about Killer.
Granted he wasn't a favorite character or anything, but I would like to see why he suddenly switched sides. I don't recall seeing why in the film.

I might taken some characters out, the alligator was weird; he was useful for eating Carface XD, but other than that, I found him quite odd, and I didn't care for Flo that much either, she wasn't a bad character, I just didn't care for her.

Well a character has to have an intro SOMEWHERE in the movie. As common as alligators are in the south, wouldn't it be rather weird to have one just randomly assist Charlie by crashing into the boat and eating Carface?

This comment from me is more for everyone else xD One could argue that the "Let Make Music Together" scene is useless. Be that as it may. But Anne Marie got sick from the sewage water in New Orleans. So basically without that scene, she wouldn't have gotten sick.

Well, if you don't like deep character development, I guess that's okay.

In all reality, I'm stumped as to why people are picking imperfections in this particular movie, but they won't bother to do the same to Balto. *shrug*

I thought ADGTH was grand. I think the scene as it is does the job, but I would've been very interested in seeing the scene when Charlie dreams of going to Hell as Don Bluth originally wanted it. Charlie's interpretation of the Devil originally spoke to him (the scene was scrapped because it would've yanked the G-rating, which at the time PG was more for teenagers and adults). I would like to know what he said to Charlie and what Charlie said back. That would be fascinating.

Well, I don't know. I guess I'm just not the type of person to like that kind of character all too much LOL. As for the Balto thing, I've seen a few topics that ask what they'd change, etc. Here's one:

Point being, you only like "good" characters, I get it xD But yeah, most of everyone in that topic aren't taking entire scenes out of the movie. Mostly people are saying he shouldn't have been half-wolf. Big deal. I think the best adjustment anyone suggested was making Balto more interesting cuz he, unlike Charlie, is the Master of Monotony.

Or they could have a wave crash into the boat. The beams holding it up were probably bound to give sooner or later, and it wouldn't be weird to have an alligator chase after and eat Carface. At the beginning of the movie you can see 'no alligator' signs all around the bar.

She fell into water. There's a good chance she would've got sick. Heck, my bet is she got sick from hearing the Big Lipped Alligator sing.
