Astrid is a young girl Viking who is determined to be the best in her dragon training class. However, her attempts are thwarted by Hiccup, who uses unorthodox methods in passing the class. She begins suspecting that Hiccup is cheating somehow, and follow him to a cove on day--only to find out that he has been keeping his own dragon, Toothless. While at first she is terrified of the dragon, she slowly warms up to Toothless after Hiccup invites her on a flight.

After Toothless is captured, Astrid helps HIccup rescue him and eventually helps the rest of the Vikings defeat the "queen" of the dragons. By the end of the film, she has developed a romantic relationship with Hiccup, and has a dragon of her own.

Gobber is the town's blacksmith. He is in charge of creating weapons for the Vikings to use when facing off against dragons, and isn't afraid to go against dragons himself. He lost his hand and leg to the dragons years ago. And one more thing: Hiccup is his incompetent apprentice.

Gobber seems to understand Hiccup pretty well, and isn't at all embarrassed by him being unable to fight dragons. In fact, he seems to see Hiccup's weakness as a gift, perhaps one that could come in handy. 

He is in charge of training young Vikings to fight dragons, and is very surprised at Hiccup's progression. When it is revealed that Hiccup has a dragon named Toothless, Gobber doesn't seem to be too surprised.

He fights alongside Stoick in the final battle of the film, risking his own life to save the rest of the Vikings. He also makes a prosthetic leg for Hiccup after the latter loses his in the battle.

Valka is a character introduced in HTTYD 2 but often mentioned in some series' episodes, in the first movie and in the short "Gift of the Night Fury" (although she was never named, until now). She is Hiccup's mother and Stoick's wife.

Thought dead by both husband, son and by the whole village of Berk, Valka was shown to be kidnapped by a Stormcutter dragon during an attack in her house. The dragon approached a baby Hiccup and she rushed in to protect him, however she could not kill the dragon and the beast and her made a connection that broke once that Stoick arrived to save wife and son. Valka was brought by the Stormcutter (later known as Cluodjumper) in a dragon valley full of dragons and where lived a giant wite dragon, a Bewilderbeast, an alpha of the dragons in that place. Valka decided to stay there, since nobody was fond of her in the village because of her ideas about dragons being not horrible creatures, she thought that Stoick and Hiccup would be better without her, like the whole village. During her stay in the valley, she learnt a lot about dragons.

One day, after 20 years, she met again with her son, Hiccup. She apologizes for disappearing and teaches him what she knows about dragons. Her reuinion with Stoick was very sweet and is shown that she still deeply loves him although she may still be diffident about humans, after 20 years spent only with the company of dragons. She helps her family during the attack of Drago and, in the end, she stays in Berk.

Drago Bludvist is the main antagonist of HTTYD 2 movie.

The leader of a massive army and a self proclaimed "Dragon God", Drago Bludvist is the main threat of the second movie of HTTYD, as he wants to build an army by enslaving all dragons to conquer the world. He as many scars on his face and is missing an arm, replaces by a prosthetic-mechanical one: he revealed to Hiccup that when he was younger, dragons attacked his village and he lost the arm. His hood is made of dragon skin and is able to resist even to Hookfang's powerful fire blast. He owns, or better say, enslaved a Bewilderbeast.

Drago was first mentioned when Hiccup and Astrid first met Eret in his ship. The boy told the riders that he was getting dragons for Drago, who wanted to build his own dragon army. When Hiccup and Astrid return to Berk, Hiccup tells Stoick about Drago, leaving the chief shocked. It is shown in a flashback that Stock already met Drago in the past, during a clan's reunion: the war between vikings and dragons still rages and Drago offered his help, only if the chiefs would bow to him. All refused and so, Drago called some dragons that burned the place down, with Stock revealing that he was the only one who made it out alive. After that Astrid and the group of riders are captured along with Eret, the young girl reveals him that it is in Berk where Hiccup and more dragons are so, he decides to head there but first, he goes to the dragon den where Valka's dragons are, ready to challenge her Bewilderbeast. The two Alpha dragons fight, with Valka's being defeated and killed. In the meantime, Drago's army fight the dragons with traps but, once the Alpha's fight is over, Drago orders to his Bewilderbeast to take control of Toothless, to show Hiccup that he is the real dragon god and then, he flies to Berk on Toothless' back, followed by his army and the dragons.

Arrived in Berk, Drago takes control of all the dragons of the vikings and then orders to his Bewilderbeast to freeze the village and its villagers. He is surprised to see Hiccup, Valka, Gobber, Eret and the riders back, flying on some dragon babies but still, he shows Hiccup how now Toothless is under his control. The young viking, howver, is able to get Toothless back to his senses and, once the night fury recognizes back his real rider, he knocks down Drago, who falls on his Bewilderbeast. A fight between the enslaved Alpha and Toothless is on and, when the Bewilderbeast is defeated, Drago falls with him.

This enslaved Bewilderbeast appreared in the HTTYD 2 movie and is owner by Drago Bludvist.

Enslaved when it was just an egg, this Bewilderbeast is not really tamed, since it was controlled against his will. Since the momenth of his birth, he had been used as Drago's personal war machine and Drago does not feel anything towards this white giant, as it is only a tool to gain control of the world. By using his power, Drago takes control of all dragons he meet, even of Toothless. In the end, he is defeated by the Night Fury, even loosing one of his tusks and, after bowing to the newly alpha Toothless, he retires in the sea, leaving permanently Berk.

The King of the Dragon's Hide is a Bewilderbeast that appeared in the HTTYD 2 movie.

With his frozing breath, this Bewilderbeast created a den for many dragons where they can peacefully live together. He accepted Valka and any new dragon that she brings in after being saved. Valka deeply respects him as she bows to him along with Cloudjumper, giving an example to both Hiccup and Toothless as they bow to the gentle giant as well. This Alpha is patient and gentle, as he even left young dragons fly around him and play on his head and he also gives fishes to all dragons. In the battle against Drago's Bewilderbeast he loses and dies after being impaled by the other white Alpha's tusks.

Eret, son of Eret, is a 25 years old boy introduced with the HTTYD 2 movie.

Eret is first seen in a ship by Astrid and Hiccup with some other men. He fires a trap to Stormfly and is intentioned to held her captive but Hiccup and Astrid stops him. He introduces himself as a dragon trapper under the orders of Drago Bludvist. As he says, Drago wants to capture all dragons to make an army and he is the one in charge to get them. Eret blames the two vikings for their destroyed base, surrounded by ice. The two riders however, are able to free the Deadly Nadder and fly away. Lately, they return to his ship, saying that they want to meet Drago, surrendering to him and giving his weapon to his men. Eret's men, curious, opens it up and sprays green gas which is actually Zippleback gas. Aware that it only takes a spark to explode, Eret flees out of the blast radius and is unharmed when sparked. Furious, he throws it out and Stormfly think its fetch. Eret asks Hiccup what is he up to, Hiccup explains that he wants to see Drago and persuade his mind about dragons. Eret, laughs that it's impossible to change his mind, but Hiccup tells him that he himself can change his mind also, But before he can do anything Hookfang suddenly grabs Hiccup, and discovers that Hiccup's dad has located him, Eret tells Stoick that he has picked the wrong ship to land on, but Stoick responds by pushing him back. He gets annoyed with Ruffnut after trying to flirt with him which he has no interest at all at her.

Lately, while he and his men don't know what to do without dragons, Stormfly picks him up and he is forced to guide them to Draco's army. Stormfly  seems to have a soft spot for him since she saves his life after that Drago's henchmen discovers the riders and capture them, bringing the group to Drago's ship. Eret is touched by this and, if before he sold them all, both riders and dragons, to Drago, he then decides to help the boys to free their dragons, being a valid ally for the group, even if he is dragonless. During the battle at the dragon's den, he rides Stormfly with Astrid and is welcomed among them by Hiccup. After Drago takes control of all dragons, he flies back to Berk on the young dragon hatchlings and, in the end, he is given to ride Stoick's dragon, Skullcrasher. During the final scene, Eret is competing with the other diers in the Dragon Race, riding Skullcrasher.

Fishlegs is one of the Dragon Riders of Berk and owns a Gronckle named Meatlug.

Fishlegs is big and chubby and very informed about the dragons, infact during the trainings with the other boys, he kept talking about the dragons weaknesses, strenghts, etc, which made his friends annoyed by him. He was very useful when the group has to face the Red Death because he could identify the weaknesses of the enemy dragon.

Ruffnut Thorstron is one of the main characters of the HTTYD movie and TV series but not existing in the books. She owns a Hideous Zippleback along with her twin brother Tuffnut, Barf and Belch.

She and her brother are often see fighting eachother over the same weapons (a shield for example) and are both wild, reckless and adrenaline junkers. She wasn't very fond of Hiccup at the beginning but once he shown a great ability to treat dragons, she bacme one of his fans, eventually flirting with him before Astrid interrupted her.

Tuffnut Thorston is one of the main characters of the HTTYD movie, books and TV series. He owns a Hideous Zippleback along with his twin sister Ruffnut, Barf and Belch.

He and his siter are often seen fighting eachother over the same weapons (a shield for example) and are both wild, reckless and adrenaline junkers. He wants to look brave and intimidating but, when something happens (with the Zippleback and the Terrible Terror during training) he runs away scared saying that he was terribly scarred. He joined the fans of Hiccup once he shown to have the ability of treating dragons.

Snotlout Snotface is one of the main characters in the HTTYD movie, books and TV series. He own a dragon, a Montrous Nightmare named Hookfang (Fireworm in the book).

Snotlout takes very seriously his dragon training class, always wanting to be seen as the thoughest, flirting with Astrid and telling out loud the ways he would kill a dragon, even to take venegance for Gobber's missing parts. But when Hiccup shown them how to befriend dragons, he was afraid and tried to get a spear head but he was blocked by Astrid. All his disliking towards Hiccup from the begging of the movie faded down and it bacame admiration when he was the first one of their class with dragons.

It wasn't mentioned in the movie but Snotlout is actually Hiccup's cousin as his father, Spitelout, is Stoick's brother.

Cloudjumper is a Stormcutter dragon that appeared in HTTYD 2 and he is Valka's dragon.

In a flashback is shown how, during a dragon raid in Berk, Cloudjumper broke into Stoick and Valka's house where a baby Hiccup was sleeping. He approached the newborn but, instead of hurting him, he was curiously watching him. When Valka's arrived, he accidentally hit Hiccup with one of his wing's talons, leaving the baby with a scar. The woman could not harm the dragon, nor he did with her, the two had a moment where they connected but, once Stoick arrived to help his wife, Cloudjumper flew away, grabbing Valka and bringing her to the dragon valley where he lived. 

It is seen that he and Valka have a very strong bond. Unlike other dragons, he doesn't have two wings but four and he can turn his head like owls do. He has two scars in one of his forehead's horns.

Stormfly is a female Deadly Nadder owned by Astrid.

Stormfly was one of the dragons kept in captivity to help the young vikings to train. When Hiccup told his friends that dragons were not enemies, Astrid chose her to ride and, therefore, she became Astrid dragon. In "Gift of the Night Fury", like the other dragons, she goes away to laid eggs and returns with three hatchlings.

Hookfang is a male Monstruos Nightmare owned by Snotlout.

Kept in captivity with the other dragons, he wasn't used for the training but he was the prize for the first of the class, who had the honor to kill him. Hiccup was the one chosen but decided to not kill him and, instead, he shown the Vikings that dragons are not bad. Unfortunately, after Stoick shouted to his son, Hookfang was scared and started to attack Hiccup, who was saved by Toothless. Hiccup gave Hookfang to ride to Snotlout, who was very scared at the beginning.

In the TV series, Hookfang rarely obeys his rider. Deep inside he cares but he doesn't really stand the childish behaviour of Snotlout, which makes Hookfang act with disrespect.

Meatlug is a female Gronckle owned by Fishlegs.

Like the other dragons, Meatlug was kept in captivity for the dragon training lessons and was chosen by Fishlegs to be his dragon during the battle against the Green Death. Fishlegs believed her to be a male but in "Gift of the Night Fury" it is revealed otherwise since she laid several eggs that exploded and almost destroyed berk when they hatched. She and Fishlegs have a very deep bond, almost like the one that Hiccup and Toothless share.

Barf and Belch is the Hideous Zippleback of Tuffnut and Ruffnut.

Barf is the left head while Berch is the right one. Unlike their riders, Barf and Berch are able to work together and, like the other dragons, they were kept in captivity for the dragon training and were chosen by Tuffnut and Ruffnut to ride against the Green Death, becoming the twins' dragon.

Grump is a Hotburple that appeared in the HTTYD 2 movie and is Gobber's dragon.

Looking like a bigger Gronkle, Grump is first seen sleeping inside Gobber's workplace, with the viking yelling at him because he let the fire die down; Grump then fires a hit but, instead of heating the oven, he almost burns down the place, with Gobber immediatly watering the fire. The dragon is always sleepy and rather lazy looking but obeys to Gobber and, in the end, return to him, almost crushing him under his weight after that Gobber asked for a hug.

Skullcrusher is a Rumblehorn that appeared in HTTYD 2 and is Stoick's dragon until his death, becoming Eret's later on.

How Skullcrusher met Stoick is unknown, since it was not shown how the viking met the dragon but it must have been after the relase of Thornado in the TV series. Stoick and Skullcrusher are shown to be close, with the dragon's personality being similar to his rider's. After the death of Stoick, Hiccup suggests Eret to take care of Skullcrusher, with the dragon accepting the boy as his new rider. In the end of the movie, the two are shown to enter the Dragon Race with the oter riders in the back of Skullcrusher, perfectly comfortable about riding him.

Gothi is an elder woman that appeared only in the HTTYD movie and TV series.

She doesn't speak and to communicate with the other vikings, she writes in an ancient language. Her job is to chose the best young dragon trainer to kill in their final exam a Monstruos Nightmare, to prove their bravery and their strenght, in order to become a real viking. In the movie, she chose Hiccup instead of Astrid.
