Box Office Mojo today posted the latest edition of their release dates for upcoming films. Some films now have new release dates, some films have been shelved, and some films have been revealed. Care to take a guess at the surprises in store?

As this article will tell, some pretty interesting upcoming releases in animation have been revealed. The first thing that catches one's attention would be the release of four Disney classics in 3D. This is likely to follow the trend that The Lion King created when it was released earlier last month.

As was announced a few years ago, Disney has been transitioning Beauty and the Beast into 3D, but halted the process when it became clear they would receive more money through the Blu-ray release instead. But now with the success of The Lion King 3D, Beauty and the Beast has been taken off the shelf and will be finished just in time for a January 13, 2012 release. Also, The Little Mermaid will undergo a 3D transition as well and is currently scheduled to release on September 13, 2013. Yes, it's almost two full years down the line, but there are several reasons for this; the biggest one is that The Little Mermaid was shot with tradition film instead of digitally, so it will take longer to make the 3D transition.

And then next on the list are Pixar films, two to be exact. Finding Nemo will be re-released in 3D on September 14, 2012, and Monsters, INC will be re-released on January 18, 2013. So it would appear that Disney and Pixar are going to re-release films every half-year, so who knows what will be coming up next?

But the biggest surprise on the list? Apparently, a theatrical Phineas and Ferb film is going to be released on July 26, 2013. How is this surprising? First of all, Phineas and Ferb is the last and currently only animated TV show that airs on The Disney Channel. This summer, the made-for-television film Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension in Fabulous 2D aired on Disney, and approximately 50 million people in the US watched it the whole way through, with viewership peaking at 75 million. That's huge; if it were a theatrical film, it could have easily made $150 million.

The last time a Disney Channel animated series produced a theatrical movie was A Goofy Movie in 1995. Now it looks like Phineas and Ferb is going to be the next one!

A recent press release from Disney has stated that a major announcement in the animation department will be made around Christmastime. What will it be about? Names for PIxar's two new films (involving the inside of the human mind, and a dinosaur story)? Or maybe (and hopefully) they'll announce that The Snow Queen is back in production. or something completely different. Whatever the case, stay tuned for updates!
