Two-time Oscar-winner sound designer Randy Thom was the supervising sound designer of Ice Age 3. His prior works include the sounds for films like Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles (which earned him an Academy Award). Many sounds had to be created for the film, especially the dinosaurs. For giant dinosaurs, Thom went to a refuge in Thailand to record the sounds of elephants. He then made them more serious to be more impressive. For Rudy, the dinosaur Buck continues to take revenge, he used and modified trumpeting of elephants recorded during the mating season.

In seasonal terms in Ice Age, the first film moved from fall to winter, and in the second from winter to spring. Ice Age 3 is the return of the ice age with a new cold wave that swept over the land.
