As in any Ice Age movie, references are well-hidden, and there are plenty in this one! When Momma Dino first arrives, we can see a reference to Jurassic Park. Indeed, the third instalment is passing with similar creatures in the film, we can identify three winks at Steven Spielberg.
First, Manny gave orders to all animals especially not move when the T-Rex arrives on the scene. Later, to escape the Ankylosaurus, Ellie attracts a brachiosaurus by shaking a tree branch, as in Jurassic Park when Alan was doing this from his perch to attract the same animal!
The final battle between Momma Dino and Rudy recalls the fight between the Spinosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus in Jurassic Park 3, with the difference being that Rudy is a Baryonyx while the proportions are exaggerated. That said, the two dinosaurs belong to the same family.
When Sid was trapped on the lava river, above there is a flight between Pterodactyl and Quetzalcoatlus, a nod to the famous Star Wars saga.
Another notable reference was when Buck comes to the rescue Manny, Diego, Ellie, Crash and Eddie when they are surrounded, he makes them reappear in camouflage. Diego wears a plant neckless as camouflage, which is a nod The Lion King where Simba once wears something similar.
Finally, a reference is made to The Flintstone when Ellie calls out "Yabadabadoo!”, Fred Flintstone’s catchphrase.
