Personality: As a cub, Malta was a carefree and adventurous cub, just like her grandfather Simba had been at her age. She was immature to some extent and pretty mature in others. She wasn't very responsible and it suited her well until she had to lead the Lion Guard. With the help of her aunt, she grew into a better, more responsible teenager she was supposed to be. However, she lost her family members in a fire incident which left her physically and mentally scarred. Due to her trauma, she would overthink before taking every step and would be grasped by anxiety which would make her avoid doing a lot of things she would've done as a cub or a teenager.

History 

One starry night, the Queen of the Pride Lands went into labor for the second time. She had given birth to a litter of two, a female cub who came out first and the male who came out the last. Naturally, Kiara had thought her younger son would be leader of the Lion Guard although he was the last born of her three cubs, since he was the second prince. Traditionally, it has always been a male until Vitani who, unlike all the other leaders, acquired the position not because of birthright, but because she had become a part of the royal family. Malta's destiny was unsure, but she could become a part of her brother's Lion Guard if she wanted to. 

Kiara and Kovu also had her betrothed to one of the princes of The Night Pride. Even though it was Kion who was ruling the Night Pride, they would still betroth their cubs as part of the alliance between the two Kingdoms, and that it was tradition since most royal cubs in the history were betrothed too regardless if they would ascend the throne or not. As a cub, Malta led a care free and fun life. She would spend her days going on adventures and hanging out with her friends while her elder brother was busy having kingship training with Kiara and Kovu and her younger brother was taking training from Vitani. She had a faint idea that she had a betrothed, and although she was keen on the idea of meeting him one day, she had no real curiosity or interest in that matter. 

However, one fateful day, she would discover that she herself, and not her brother had inherited the roar of the elders. Vitani, the current leader of the Lion Guard fell ill and was bedridden. During that time, she was unable to use the roar which was a period of several months. Although she hadn't officially passed down the mark yet, Malta's brother attempted to carry out a few small duties with the help of the Guard members. Malta would run around free all day, free of any duties. She came across a pack of jackals trying to hunt down a baby animal one day. Knowing that hunting of the young is against the law, she tried to yell at the jackals. To her shock, the elders seemed to have roared along with her, making the jackals fly away. She had seen her auntie Vitani roar, but she couldn't work out why the kings of the past roared with HER. She was not supposed to be the Lion guard, her brother was.

She would rush home and tell her parents who would then contact Rafiki. Rafiki, after trying quite a while to communicate with the kings of the past, informed them that they had chosen Malta to be the next leader and not her brother. He also explained that this was due to the fact that Vitani and Fuli had proven their worth as females working as members of the Guard and thus the elders have decided that girls would inherit the power too, from now on. Malta was overwhelmed with mixed feelings. She had never thought about it. How would she do it? She had never received any training from Vitani. She hadn't mentally prepared herself to take on this responsibility. She was still just a pre teen and thought she didn't have leadership abilities, either. However, she soon learned to accept her destiny. Fortunately, Vitani recovered soon. By then, Malta had recieved few advices and trainings from the other guard members and her brother. Vitani filled up the spot by providing her with real, professional lessons and passed down the mark on her when she was a teen. 

She chose her brother as the keenest of sight. Kiara had requested Kion to send his sons over to the Pride Lands. After the three boys arrived, Malta chose them as the other members of her guard. One of her cousins, she learnt, was her betrothed. Ahadi seemed pretty smitten on Malta however Malta wasn't quiet keen on him. She did harbor a very tiny, tiny crush for him but it wasn't destined to grow into anything else. 

On an unfortunate event, a large fire broke out in the Pride Lands when Malta was a young adult. She lost all three of her cousins, almost lost her brother too and suffered burns on hind leg. Her injury took quiet was while to recover, however it left a permanent burn mark. She was also devastated on the fact that she failed to save her cousins. When Kion, Rani, and her other cousin Sitara came to the funeral, she couldn't look at them in their eyes. Even though they never blamed her for the boys' deaths, Malta secretly did. She had a great friendship with her cousin Sitara prior but knew that the relationship would now be strained due to her thinking that she herself was responsible for the death of Sitara's brothers. And it did, as Sitara went back to the Night Pride, never to fully emotionally recover again. Sitara never blamed Malta either but either of them were too depressed to actually patch up their friendship. 

Malta decided to take a chance at dating as an attempt to distract herself. She dated quiet a few males including Pride members, guys from ally prides and a few rogues, though it did remind her of Ahadi, the sweet boy who blushed around her and she regretted for not giving him a chance. However, with time, she recovered with the help of her family. She had to take up the duty of the Lion Guard again but the incident left a mark on her emotionally, and she was now more conscious than ever. Vitani's former guard members filled up the missing spots. Malta was ridden with anxiety and overthinking and questioned if she could really do it again but still managed to carry out her duties since she had to.

- As a cub, her tuft is similar to cub Simba's but as an adult, her tuft is similar to cub Kovu's.
