Personality: She is very stubborn. She's afraid of nothing, and is petulant and irascible. She is ribald, ruthless, irreverent, heinous, quarrelsome, and can seem diabolic. She gets into fights often. She can be scathingly sarcastic, and does not care if she offends or hurts anyone. She gets angry often, and when she does she adds her own twist of colorful language, getting incredibly foul-mouthed. She tones down her temper around her friend Leilani.

History: She was born in the jungle near Rio. She was often stubborn and frequently disobeyed her parents. She often fought with her siblings as well, calling them names and insulting them. Her parents thought she would grow out of it, but they were wrong; she only got worse, to the point where neither her parents nor her siblings could tolerate her. After she was kicked out of the family, life was easy. When she came into Rio de Janeiro, she soon became the most feared bird in town; some said she was worse than Nigel. She was the local outcast and didn't mind a bit. Sometimes a few birds who thought they were tough enough made the mistake of challenging her to a fight; they were always the loser, and another died in a fight. This added to her bad rep.

Another day, she bumped into a black-headed parrot named Leilani, and they got into a very heated fight/argument. María provoked and enraged Leilani so much that she scratched María's face. The scratch was deep. Leilani flew off, somewhat pleased.  María soon lost sight in her right eye, which the scar crossed. María couldn't believe how well this bird could fight, but didn't show it.

Now, despite everything, the two are friends. Not necessarily good friends, but friends nonetheless.

Eventually María will learn the error of her ways, and will also fall in love with someone. But for now she is still negative. She tones it down around Leilani, though.
