Brownie is a sweet, obedient mare that adores companionship. She gets very worked up and afraid whenever she's alone, so she greatly appreciates the comfort and safety of a herd.

History:

Brownie was the offspring of a cavalry stallion and a broodmare. As soon as she was old enough she was broken in and started her life in the US cavalry. Since she was always an obedient, sweet mount many of the officers wanted to ride her, and she became known around the stables as ‘Beauty’. By contrast, the stable lad that was assigned to look after her became jokingly known as ‘The Beast’. In fact, Brown Beauty was so sweet tempered that the soldiers decided to breed her to an equally friendly cavalry stallion, and soon she was pregnant.

Brownie had a fairly good life with the cavalry, and she had no desire for anything else. That is, not until she met Spirit, however. From the moment dun stallion entered the barracks the attention of every horse was upon him. His resolve was so great, and his desire for freedom was so intense that Brownie began to wish that she too could gallop unfettered across the plains. But it didn’t look like that would ever happen. Brownie felt sorry for the mustang, closed up inside the fort while his heart soared free. And then, when the Colonel tried to break him, for a moment she really feared that Spirit’s wild life was over. But he bounced back, and before she knew what was happening the doors of the stables were open and she was galloping out of the fort behind the mustang.

Brownie revelled in her new found freedom. As the band of horses broke up to go their own ways she cantered off towards the sun, lapping up its warm rays and the feeling of running without a rider or tack upon her back. It was wonderful. For days Brownie travelled ever onwards, afraid to stop unless the cavalry caught up with her and took her back. But the further she travelled the more she realised she was completely alone, and a feeling of fear began to creep through her. She began to shy at the slightest noise or movement of the bushes, and eventually her nerves snapped.

Shooting into a gallop, Brownie bolted through the forest and almost collided with a dapple grey stallion on the other side. Her heart pounding, she begged him to stay with her: she was tired and fed up of being alone. The stallion reassured her and took her to his small but growing herd. As Brownie settled down she began to realise that it would be nice to be a part of a herd and have lots of horses around her again, and the grey stallion, Antique, seemed like a kind horse. Brownie chose to stay with his herd, happy and secure now that she was surrounded by other horses once again.

Before too long Brownie gave birth to her daughter by the cavalry stallion. The chestnut mare loved being a mother, and doted on her foal, whom she named Auburn. She hopes to have many more with her new mate, Antique.
