  Appearance

 Colours: Dark brown coat with a tan underside and breast. Darker brown stockings and eye rims like her Sire. Darker brown dorsal stripe (jagged at withers) like her Dam. Darker brown muzzle markings, with pink snips. Hooves are tan pink. Eye colour is dark amber.

Physique: Io has long, healthy, wavy hair with a small amount of feathering above her hooves. She is stocky, has a short muzzle and almond shaped eyes.

Personality

She is quiet and at ease. Innocent and down to earth. Though simple-minded she is admired for her ability to sort issues and problems (within the Ninovan herd) out. No matter how bad the situation, she never gets stressed or angry, but keeps her head, and stays calm.

History 

 Birthplace: The Ninovan herd territory.

Io's birth was long and tense, due to her large frame and feet; also because her mother was small for her age. When at last Io lay on the grass covered in flesh, Discovery licked her clean, let her suckle for a while, then they both fell asleep. 

  Io grew up happily and quickly, shooting through her foal and filly years. She was a very calm character, and when young was not afraid to stray from her mother's side. In her adult years she spent much of her time alone wandering the Ninovan Herd lands, usually on her own solitary expeditions, but sometimes following her father about as he went on his regular territory patrols. It was on one of her lone wanderings that she came face to face with a human.

 The human, an eligible gentleman, was an artist and photographer who travelled the wild west country painting portraits and taking shots of the landscape. After seeing Io that first day, he saw her on many occasions afterwards. She was such a lovely horse that he painted first one, then many portraits of her. Io was calm enough to graze peacefully near the human as his model, knowing The Painter meant no harm. 

 The Painter's art of Io became very successful. The Colonel himself bought a piece, little knowing that the wild horse featured was the grand-niece of the very buckskin stallion, Spirit, he had tried to break in years previously, and granddaughter of the famous Kiger King mustang.

 Io still lives in the Ninovan Herd.

Relation to the SSOTC Universe: is biologically related to Spirit; one painting of her is owned by The Colonel
