Personality:

Woodsmoke is a lovable rogue. He can’t seem to resist getting up to mischief, but it’s always good natured; never malicious. Now that he’s an adult his exploits are mostly limited to sneaking into herds and stealing attractive mares from under their stallions’ noses. But he’ll only steal mares from bullying stallions, or if he believes they’re truly unhappy in their current herds. In this way he’s a sort of equine Robin Hood; chivalrous, rebellious and driven by justice. Charismatic and charming as he is, he doesn’t always get away unscathed, and every wound he’s ever received shows up as battle scars on the corn spots on his roan coat. To some mares, this only increases his attractiveness, since all of his wounds prove his strength in battle.

Playing around, exploring, teasing other stallions, stealing mares, testing his strength and stamina in increasingly dangerous stunts to steal mares

Dislikes:

Bullying stallions, when a stallion is cruel to his mares, being unable to ‘rescue’ a mare, as he puts it

History:

Woodsmoke was born into a small herd of wild mustangs. They lived close to another, larger herd called the Cimarron Herd, and, as it so happened, there was a colt in that herd about the same age as him. Woodsmoke’s mother and the colt’s dam were good friends, and Smoke and Mirrors would often take her young son along when she went to visit the Cimarron Herd. The other colt was a buckskin dun who would later be named Spirit by a Native American. Woodsmoke and Spirit became instant friends, and would play together for hours whilst their mothers talked and grazed. Sometimes the colts would go off exploring and get themselves into trouble, but their mothers could never stay angry at them for long.

As Woodsmoke grew up he began to seek more independence for himself. Rather than hanging around with his childhood friend, who took over the Cimarron Herd from his father, Woodsmoke set out to find his own way in life. At first he joined a band of other colts, but he didn’t always want to do what they wanted to, and he found himself drifting further away from them day by day. In time he ran into a two colts of his own age; a black leopard spotted called Therefore and a palomino named Tri. They explained that they didn’t like the brutish ways of the other colts, and, Woodsmoke agreed with them. The three of them decided to form their own small band and travel together, unfettered by large groups or responsibilities. It was during this time that they began to notice the many other mustang herds around.

Quickly learning to watch them from a distance, or they’d be chased off by the herd stallions, Woodsmoke, Tri and Therefore began to observe the other horses. Some herds, they noticed, were oppressed and bullied by their harsh leaders. Therefore was particularly stressed by this, and vowed that when he had his own herd he’d take in horses that were oppressed like this. But Woodsmoke decided to take things a step further. When the colts eventually parted ways to form their own herds, Woodsmoke decided to gather his herd by stealing mares from brutish stallions. And so his quest began…
