Malamutes can be used for racing, there more built for heavier laods and i think for that reason, they should have a little more endurance!But also look at the other dogs, Steele is a whole heck of alot bigger than huskies!

malamutes aren't even used for racing. they're larger, stockier and slower than huskies and are better at pulling weight around than going fast. sure steele is large but the animators made him for effect, you know? so you are right.

I think he's a mix of the two.

Sorry but this isn�t an argument. I have a Berger Blanc Suisse with light brown eyes but the breed standard requires dark brown eyes. Because of that he is not qualified for the breeding but he is still a Berger Blanc Suisse. Yes blue eyes fall short of the standards. Alaskan Malamutes with blue eyes are not qualified for the dog breeding but many Malamutes have blue eyes. Here are a few examples I have found on the internet:

Yes this discussion is senseless because we will never know what he really is. I also think he is much too big for a Sibirian Husky but perhaps he is a Husky-Malamute crossbreed.

i think, when it comes to the breeds of the characters, that people forget that this is an animation, not real life footage. Steele was a bully, so they had to make him large, strong and seemingly too much for balto to confront. personally, i am interested in the profiles of the chars, but i dont particularly care so long as it makes some sort of sense.

I knew he was a Sibe just by the eyes thing. But it baffles me why people care so much about the breed of a fictional character.

Steele is a Siberian. Had the animators decided to make him a Mal, he would be fluffy. The point of size is rather moot, as is eye color and tail. I've seen quite a few Mals and quite a few Sibes, of all shapes sizes and colors. The build of a Mal is thicker, more robust. The Sibe only looks delicately built. The builds of both Jenna and Steele are roughly similar, though Steele is more robust - as he is male. If we assume that Jenna is a Sibe, and since Steele has a similar, albeit masculine build, Steele is also a Sibe.

Of course, looking it up at IMDB would tell you that he is a Sibe in a less roundabout way, as Jersey Captain has said previously.

End of debate.

The trivia on IMDB.com already indicates that he was a Siberian Husky. That has been established by the production people.

Yes, you are correct. He's a Siberian husky, not an Alaskan malamute. His eyes say it all.
