Personality:

Shila is friendly and kind, but a bit reclusive. She doesn’t like being in large groups, as she had spent the first year of her life only with her parents, and since she grew up without cow calves, she is kind of a tomboy. She is a little sarcastic, smart and a very fast runner. She does like joking around, but she hates jokes being made on her costs.

She is very loving and devoted towards those whom she loves, and she can be kind of clingy because she fears losing them.

She is a hard and honest worker and does her best for her, her herd’s and her friend’s safety.

History:

Not long before Shila’s birth, her parents had been separated from their old herd and were loners now. They feared not being able to protect their daughter, but were still happy when she was born.  Shila didn’t understand why she and he parents were all alone, but she didn’t mind as they still played with her and tried to make her as happy as possible.

But life was hard up north, and their misfortune destroyed their family in Shila’s first winter. Shila’s mother, Eska, fell ill in late autumn, and since winter was approaching, they found hardly enough food. But no matter how weak Eska was, she always tried to make sure her daughter wasn’t hungry before she ate herself. Before long, this lead to her death.

Shila, as well as her father Quilak, were devastated when Eska didn’t wake up one morning. Shila was still only a calf, and Quilak told her that Eska would never wake up again. She was with the spirits now.

But after his mate’s death, Quilak changed. The grief and the guilt he felt drove him crazy. He blamed both himself and his daughter for it, but he still cared for Shila, as he knew it was his mate’s wish that she would grow up to be a fine, strong cow.

He talked less, though, became harsher, more aggressive and more reclusive. Shila suffered silently because of this, as she was in grief herself.

Father and daughter continued wandering until they eventually met a herd, which happened to be Ataneq’s- The white bull allowed them to stay, seeing they needed a herd.

Shila was happy to have other calves to play with and slowly got over her mother’s death. Her father, however, did not. And the older Shila got, the more they would argue, as she grew up to be a rebellious teen. And the worst thing was that she looked a lot like her mother, which of course hurt her father a lot.

Their relationship became more and more broken, up to the point when they didn’t talk to each other anymore.

They still loved each other, but they didn’t show it at all. Until misfortune stroke again…

After another argument, Shila ran off one night, unaware of the danger she was getting herself in. A pack of wolves caught when she was some distance away from the herd. She ran and cried for help. Luckily for her, her father, who had set off to search for her out of worry (she had been away for more than two hours) heard her and ran to her aid.

He fought the wolves, but he didn’t have much of a chance all alone. Ataneq, who had decided to help him search for Shila, eventually arrived and fought off the wolves, but it was already to late.

Quilak was badly wounded, and Ataneq could only watch how Shila ran up to her father and lay down beside him. Shila nuzzled her father and cried, suddenly realizing how much she loved and how much she would miss him. She told him, and he told her the same and that he wanted her to make the best out of her life.

Then, Quilak died.

Ataneq stood there watching for some time, letting her have time to grief his death. But eventually, he let the crying cow away.

Shila very slowly dealt with her father’s death. She worked, however, hard to become the next messenger and Ataneq gave her the rank.

When they arrived near the Great Forest, Shila was happy she could do something to help and be the messenger between the rebel group and her herd. And she found out she rather liked one of the caribous from the rebel group, Kesuk, as she could relate to him because they both had lost their parents.
