Wolves are doing FINE. Better than that. Just because there aren't alot in the main US states (Meaning NOT Alaska) doesn't mean they are gone. The whole point of this topic IS that there are too MANY in Alaska. They are doing too well. They need to be reduced in numbers.

Exactly, thank you.
They don't need our help.

People keep missing the point when it comes to wolves.

Like Rebel has already said, the Grey Wolf is NOT Endangered. The Grey Wolf is listed as "Least Concern".

The wolves that ARE endangered are:
The European Wolf, which is still killed off in large numbers in some areas of Europe.
The Ethiopian Wolf, which is very much endangered now and really does need the help.
Other Canids, meaning dogs and foxes. For example, the African Wild Dog.

Here, enjoy a read [link].

This is so sad. People are talking about the wolves being overpopulated in Alaska....Thats EXACTLY how it all started in Sweden. Its not the wolves that are overpopulated in Alaska its the caribou (reindeer) just like it was here. If people are to arrogant and refuse to see that then sadly the Alaska wolf is facing local extinction. I can count the Swedish wolf packs on one hand.

Kill some caribou instead they wouldn't suffer if you killed about a thousand in a go.

America needs to be more careful with the wildlife otherwise you will end up like Europe.

Remember that Alaskans are also jumpy because of the Candince Berner incident. She was tracked down and killed by a wild animal just outside of an Alaskan village, and although they were never able to pin down exactly what animal did it the snow was covered in wolf tracts. In the same area a few months later a man was cornred and killed off one of the wolves. A few weeks later the same wolves tried to attack again and were culled. None of the wolves had rabies, there were attacking humans most likely for food. The wolf population is too large for caribou to handle right now, so they are beginning to look at human resources for food. Also remember Alaska has few industries outside of lumber, oil, fish, and furs. Its america's last fronteir, the people that live there live off what they hunt. They often can't afford to skip out on a few Caribou because money isn't really being pumped into Alaska for anything but oil (which is just used to get more oil) so many have to resort to trapping and hunting to make a living. Alaska also has a higher population than any of the states.

She was killed 2 miles outside of the village. The other encounters with the pack were a bit farther away, 3-4 miles if I remember correctly.

And something I don't think many people know: the permit for each wolf is 3 per person.

Not that many people go wolf hunting anyway. They're one of the hardest game animals to hunt in North America, incredibly hard to even find. And Alaska has only issued 3 ariel hunting permits within the last decade. They don't usually issue them to private hunters, only to the Alaskan Fish and Wildlife in certain areas.
