I could buy a used one for $131.99 USD :( That's without the shipping, too.

It's ok. I think I'm ready to accept that I won't be seeing this movie this winter/Christmas... again - for the fourth time lol. (ya it blows big time. I thought playing Uncharted 2 yesterday would help me get over it. But the farthest I got in the game was popping in the disc and ejecting it out looooool. And I love Uncharted).

I have every right to be mad at Universal right now - JUST RELEASE IT IN FRIGGIN WIDESCREEN and I would have bought the 3 family pack DVD GAR. I just hope the next e-mail I get won't be about my American Tail region 2 DVD being canceled also.

Region 2, from UK, ships worldwide.

Ya I saw that one, too but it's PAL. The PS3 can only play NTSC DVDs sadly. Although... I think there is a way to play this movie as a media file...

There is a way to play PAL disks on NTSC players, but I can't find any good tutorial... But I'll keep looking, because I want to import a set of DVD's from Australia.

There is no way to play PAL blurays or dvds in Playstation 3, its is a technical issue, in short, how PAL carry 625 lines and NTSC 525, PAL PS3 can play NTSC because NTSC carry less lines than what it can hold, but the same not happen with the ntsc one because its only able to play 525 lines.

To play a NTSC disk in any PAL player (if them are from the same region or have no regional restriction) is just insert the disc in the player, however it will play in NTSC, so your tv must support ntsc, most of europeans tvs made recentily supports ntsc.

The PAL and NTSC playstation 3 are exactly the same, with the same abilities. Only the region code changes, which is hard coded into the machine, and preventing from playing discs from other regions. It's not exactly a technical restriction, it's a business one.
Most TVs nowadays can play NTSC and PAL content, as well as all HD TVs.

Steet, I don´t want to annoy or be against you but, it is a tech issue, this screen appers when you try to play an region all pal dvd in an ntsc playstation 2.

Image
(TV System doesn´t match) in English
Better in french: (Le Système TV n´est pas compatible.)

Only a few revisions of ps2 slim can play pal dvds (scph-900XX)

In the ps3, i don´t know if it play or not, but in all of its manuals (all versions manuals) is stated that it can´t play pal dvd/blurays.

There is a way to play PAL on a N. American/Japanaese/any PS3s that plays NTSC DVDs. I wouldn't say it's a official way to do it obviously. I tested this before and I have no idea why I didn't bring it up on my last post lol. I used DVD decrypter and ripped a trailer out of a PAL DVD. I renamed the file extension from VOB to mpg. So no conversion needed at all. Then you put that mpg file and transfer it to the PS3 (via memory stick or media sharing - whatever). Then it goes to your PS3 video hard drive and it plays :D ! 'cause it plays as a media file, which jumps around the PAL restriction border lol.

And you won't have to worry about upscaling video to HD 'cause the PS3 does that to all videos in lower resolutions.

Still, it's quite a hassle if you're ripping your entire PAL movie collection altogether unless you're only dealing with one or 2 pal movies.

Regardless, I've bought Balto from Amazon Japan. Nearly $40USD but whatever. I'm through dreaming on having this movie on DVD widescreen :) Thanks for the link anyway, Togo.

Again, all the consoles are "technically" the same (with few minor differences), only the bios are different.
Because with mod chips, I believe you can unlock the possibilities to play PAL or NTSC DVDs.

In any case...We're getting off topic.

I have a modchiped console, the modchip can´t bypass this restriction...

Backing to the topic, balto dvd here in brazil (widescreen, with documentary and region 1 encoded) are quite easy and cheap to find, the problem is to ship to outside brazil that is quite expensive.

if someone are interested, we could set a way for everyone have this dvd in widescreen, we could make a group for example and buy in a huge quantity ... its a thing to think: the price of dvd in brazil is less than 10 dollars , but shipping is expensive, more than 30 dollars, the price of shipping is same for 1 dvd or 5 dvds so I could send to someone in US then that person would be responsable to re-sell it there.... well thats one idea,...
