I will be realistic : there is almost no chance of this to happen. The only reason behind this petition is to at least try to do something, but companies rarely take petitions under account : they only take sales figures.

There would need to be major changes in the animation industry to make such things possible...

That's what I was thinking. Petitions rarely work, it doesn't matter what it is. You'd need like 100,000 signatures for them to even consider it because from a fiscal standpoint, 2,000 people buying a DVD at, let's just say at 22 dollars, would only yield 44,000 dollars which is a fraction of production costs.

So in short; it's just not profitable.

In that case, I'll MUST get the Brazilian copy of the DVD AND the soundtrack before Christmas. First goel is the soundtrack. Expensive but worth it for someone like me who loves hard copy music. I hope I actually meet my goal

It's still possible to find it on ebay, and while it's really expensive, I think that such a great soundtrack deserves that money.

Actually I don't think that re-releasing a new DVD of the same film costs that much. It's only the distribution and a little work on adding extras, but that's nothing compared to creating a whole new film, even a DTV sequel.
And don't forget that many more people would buy it than just the people who signed the petition.

I got a question about the widescreen DVD. Is the DVD dual-layered? I hope some of you understand this term lol. Which ever answer I get (yes or no) will affect how I reburn on what type of DVD disc to make it region free.


Definitely worth getting. I'll be getting one of those before Christmas. Not to say I don't appreciate the free music offered here in this site. I just prefer the own the original CD quality of music, where it's lossless and perfect as it can be. I'll still rip it to mp3/aac of course at whatever bitrate I desire. It's always good to own master copies of music when they have their original maximum quality [as it can be].

I'm pretty sure it's single-layer.


My thought exactly: such a good soundtrack deserves the best quality possible, not some crappy mp3 128kbps. It deserved to win the Oscar for the best soundtrack, as I always said.

The region 2 DVD is dual layered; I'm unsure about the region 1 DVD though. Just put your DVD in a PC and see if the size is greather than 4.3 Gb : if it is, then it's dual layered.



Of course, it would have been at least nominated IF it had been popular.
As for the difference between MP3 and CD, I honestly can't tell much difference even though I have a good headset. To me, when a music is good, it is good, no matter the quality. (of course, better is still better)

Yeah, for this I don't really consider that prize very much... I know that it's not easy to choose the winner and sometimes it'a a matter of opinions, but in cases like this it's obvious that something's wrong.


Depends. It's actually hard to notice the difference between a good MP3 320kbps rip and a CD without a professional system, but even with a $100 headset an MP3 192kbps or even 128kbps sounds horrible compared to a CD.

This is why I wish I have a big enough hard drive for storing WAV instead of mp3 lol. I go for 256 AAC VBR these days. I do CBR if there's songs/soundtracks flow from one track to another seamlessly. I'm very nit picky with my music and quality.

And I'm thinking of sharing the wav files to anyone here once I get the soundtrack Hopefully, before Christmas

As for grammy nominations - It's James Horner - this soundtrack should have been nominated. And Reach For The Light is a beautiful breath taking song. I just can't believe this movie was given underrated attention. And wow it's been already more than 10 years since I first heard of Balto ( saw it on TV as a child).




Dual layer, the better. It'd mean they have a high bitrate for the movie (not always true but I'll believe it for this movie). And man I checked out a fan made trailer in "HD" (I know it's not really HD) on youtube. And the quality from there was awesome enough! Having the actual DVD quality would be whooplash awesome. I can definitely live with this quality.

And for anyone wondering where I'm getting the Balto DVD from, it's from YesAsia. A reliable site for imports and no bootlegs whatsoever. Everything there is legal and legit. Believe me because I've been buying from there for years.

I'm buying the Japanese import for $12.99 USD. If any of you want to buy a widescreen Balto DVD without going through language barriers in different stores, now's your chance. But it only a limited re-release so better hurry. Go here (US/Canada) or here (Europe and everywhere else).

Sorry to double post but I've received bad news that stabbed my heart. The site I ordered from told me my Balto DVD was canceled in my order because they couldn't find it from the suppliers, since it's out of print ALREADY O man if not the soundtrack, I thought I'd be getting this beloved-hard-to-find-movie in widescreen FINALLY before Christmas. And it was the cheapest, too ($13.49 USD). I don't really have the money to import from elsewhere...

Man, that really blows.

Can't you just try Ebay? I'm sure there are lots of sellers of region 2 DVDs there.

I could buy a used one for $131.99 USD That's without the shipping, too.

It's ok. I think I'm ready to accept that I won't be seeing this movie this winter/Christmas... again - for the fourth time lol. (ya it blows big time. I thought playing Uncharted 2 yesterday would help me get over it. But the farthest I got in the game was popping in the disc and ejecting it out looooool. And I love Uncharted).

I have every right to be mad at Universal right now - JUST RELEASE IT IN FRIGGIN WIDESCREEN and I would have bought the 3 family pack DVD GAR. I just hope the next e-mail I get won't be about my American Tail region 2 DVD being canceled also.
