Just to break up the Twilight monotony (emphasis on "monotony") let's talk about daemons. Daemons are the animal manifestations of your soul. What is your daemon? What's his/her name? Do you talk to your daemon?

Before I begin, just a few terms I might throw around since I'm very involved in the daemon scene. Yes, I believe they're real.

Daemian: A person who believes in and has a daemon they communicate with.

CIEDay: Coming Into Existence Day. The day you first visualized and communicated with your daemon.

SYIAW: This is shorthand for "Screw You I'm a Wolf Syndrome." SYIAW is when you pick something you think is cool or is your favorite animal completely disregarding whether that animal matches you or not. Severe cases of SYIAW end up with the person throwing a tantrum when you tell them wolves aren't loners. It's called "Screw You I'm a Wolf Syndrome" because most beginning daemians say "WOLVES ARE COOL AND LONERZ LIKE ME LOLOLOLOL" (Hint: Wolves are extremely social animals. Being Balto fans, you should know this by now.)

Settled/Unsettled: In the off chance you don't know what this means. Settled means your daemon has chosen one form and sticks with it. Unsettled means your daemon changes form. However, since in our case, daemons are incorporeal (don't have a physical body) they can still change when they're settled i.e. I'm a settled snake soul. It means I am without a doubt a snake daemian and even though my daemon changes form, we're still a snake at heart.

That being said, my daemon. My daemon is a settled Cottonmouth named Cyrus. He's an odd mixture of best friend and most obnoxious rival. My CIEDay is in a week so yay for us!

So BS, introduce your daemon to us. Don't talk to your daemon? Just say what you think it would be.

Out of interest, how would one find out what animal their Daemon is?
Is it similar to the Native American spirit guides (which are all animals)?

Uk~ There was a quiz on the Golden Compass site.....Although, in my opinion, it had very limited results and wasn't that accurate. But, you could still try it I suppose.

Yeah, I took that quiz. It came up as a snow leopard named Erasmus. I was wondering if that had anything to do with the book/movie in that sense.

Some people analyze animals traits and turn them into human traits. The Daemon Forum has an index of analyzed animals you can check out. Or join and post a list of your traits and someone can match you up with an animal.

It's pretty much in perspective. If you think you really fit a (fill in the blank) and give your reasons why, that's good enough.

I have a settled dragon daemon, I don't know his name but I went on that website as well, and it did say that sometimes people have two daemons that merge into one, well I have an unsettled sort of dog (again name unknown) but I don't know which is my true one, and they havn't merged yet, but I think it will be my dragon that stays rather than my dog

that's a nice topic Sora! 8D
I have a daemon too and it's not a wolf, they're my faves animals but not my daemon, mine is a mix between a jackal and a coyote and is named Sirion, I've rea that jackals and coyotes are matched with someone that makes jokes or tricks but I'm not that kind (and I really can't stand them) infact sometimes me and Sirion have a discussion but he's always with me...
my CIEDay was four years ago, when my grandfather died...

I have know that I have a daemon for sometime now. I first saw her when I was around 5-6 I was in my living room coloring when this large black cat like shape came across the room. At first I didn't really understand what it was until years later when I figured out it was a black panther. My daemon is a black panther.

I was reading about real deamons. They're basicly the voice in your head that comments on you actions, usually the opposite of your personality.

Example: I got board waiting for something to load on my computer, so I turned on my i-pod and started dancing (badly). The voice in my head said "you're such a dork" and I stopped because (even though nobody was around) it made me feel embarassed.

Check out this site:

http://findyourdaemon.googlepages.com/

I can't verify if it's correct (it could easily be wrong), but this is what I'm going by.

I haven't seen what my Deamon is, but I've spoken with it. I don't know what kind of animal it is, but it's personality matches up to one of my oldest characters Thunder. I just refer to my daemon as Thunder.
Thunder is a wolf character, but I'm not sure what animal the deamon is. I tried a technique suggested on a site to get in touch with your animal gardian and mine seemed to be a platypus, so maybe that's it ^^
It says on that site that imaginary friends you had when you were little can be your deamon. I may have seen mine in my imaginary friend Baby Monster. He was a freakishly skeletal little boy with chalky white skin and deeply sunken eyes. He looked kinda like a zombie, but he was small enough for me to carry. It's probably changed forms by now because I had Baby Monster from preschool to starting kindergarden.

No, that is a symptom of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is know as intrusive thoughts. For instance, a religous person may sudden;y get blasphemous thoughts that they wouldn't think of. Or someone may be talking to someone else and suddenly have a thought about murdering them.

I'm just saying what I read on a site about real Daemons, I don't know if it's true or not. Besides if it were real, of course scientists wouldn't believe it and make it some sort of mental condition.
I do know about Intrusive thought anyway.

I believe daemons are real regardless of what people say

Well, I'm a big fan of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy but I'm aware that that's not the first mention of them.

I'm trying to see my daemon. It's hard though. I think it would've just been beginning to settle (I'm 13 in October). Even though it's BS and all that, I promise it's not a case of SYIAW. In fact, I think I'd be a dog. Because I'm friendly (but not really outgoing around strangers) bubbly, unique and a bit of a doormat.

Ehh, and when I took the Daemon quiz (a number of times) the first result I got was a Whippet, then a Raccoon, the a Tiger (the first two I can understand, and while tigers are pwnsome I can't see where that came from) and then any other time I took it I got any of those three.

I remember when I was a kid, having something which was very most likely my daemon or a version of it. He was a lion with wings, a 'Maelyn', and I can't remember what his name was. He was yeah, an imaginary friend and we used to go on all sorts of adventures XD with our dragon, wolfie and unicorn friends HHAAHA

And I always find myself talking to myself, usually in my head, but sometimes just whispering to myself. I even have a conversation sometimes. "That was idiotic," "Then why didn't you tell me that earlier?" Stuff like that happens a lot. But myrr, thanks for all the helpful links.
