^Guilty of the first part of that one, and I agree about the potion thing. Where do you think 1000 Ways to Die got some of its stories? xDD

~ You place yourself in your character's shoes to see what is happening through their eyes to get a better perspective on the story (my personal trick) ;D

Exactly. I can't believe they market books with that kind of stuff to kids. Couldn't Rowling have at least made up fictional plants the way C.S. Lewis did (for example with Lucy's cordial made from the juice of fire flowers that grew in the valley of the sun)?

DT: What I meant really was staring at objects and trying to make them levitate. That, I do. I've never made or consumed potions, or anything.

I'm not too crazy about that either. I will be blunt; I'm not a fan of any kind of mysticism. Telekinesis, telepathy, seances and Oija boards (I have heard plenty of true stories about those turning out to be bad ideas), whatever. Maybe that sounds strange given my interest in dragons, but there's a world of difference.

True. I mainly do it for fun, or out of sheer boredom. I don't believe in the stuff, and I wouldn't consider myself a fan of it either.

Good.

And now back to our regularly scheduled topic...

You know you're writing fantasy when you spend hours on end pondering the anatomy of a chimera in order to fogure out how its nervous system works or where its hide could most easily be penetrated. (Guilty)

... in casual conversation, you find yourself referring to the human race as "them." (Guilty)

... you wonder at length how dragons would get along (or not get along) with species resembling natural prey, such as jackalopes. (Guilty)

... you wonder if jackalopes could construct doors, since their burrows would have to be larger than most to allow for their antlers. (Guilty)

... you have actually considered seeking an expert anatomist to determine what sort of paws would be suitable for hopping like a rabbit and for grasping/manipulating objects like a man. (Guilty)

I don't know if this breaks the rules about bumping a topic or not, but I thought of this recently and just had to post it.

You know you're writing fantasy when you want to learn how to say "Thank you," excuse me," "yes," or some other common word or phrase in the language of a make-believe animal because saying it in an existing human language is too commonplace.

^ LOL. That one's funny.

Thanks. I find it crossing my mind every time I say "thanks" in the kitchen.

And that's good too, lol

Lol, my friend and I do that all the time. ^^

Guilty, almost every minute of the day. Just yesterday I asked one of my co-workers, "Do you think if someone had sunburn and their skin was peeling, they could get rid of it by turning into a reptile and shedding it all the way?"

you've had to make long and elaborate family trees just to keep all the bloodlines straight.

When you waste months at a time designing a map specifically catered for your fictional world.

I was reading through this topic again and realized this one could actually happen in a series I'm writing.

Not guilty of either, though I probably should.

When you think of clever, convenient ways to ensure that a would-be dead person can manage to come back into the story once more.

Very difficult to devise without falling into unnecessary plotholes.
