What's this?

This project consists in proposing yourself to make Source sites similar to the ones you already know : Balto Source, The Lion King Source..., applying the same formula to other films/series.

Because I don't have time to do everything myself, and I'm not a fan of every film/series that exists, I have made a quite simple interface to make the sites. So (almost) anyone can help!

What should I do?

If you're interested in helping, just submit an entry to this contest.

Two possibilities : either you're good at writing, or you're good at designing (or both!)

So, you can submit either a text or a picture, or both.

What kind of text can I submit?

Please submit a short description of the film / series, and/or a description of one character (to test your writing skills).

Write your text into a regular document file (any format you want : .doc, .txt, .odt ...)

Example : /talespin/en/info_general/&id_film=9

Some advices :

- You must write these texts ENTIRELY YOURSELF!!! No copy/paste from another website such as Wikipedia will be allowed! I want ORIGINAL content, don't submit anything if you don't want to make efforts! 
 
- Of course, a good level of grammar / spelling will be required.

What kind of picture can I submit?

You can submit a picture of a design you have created, for a possible new Source site.

And this is what I have obtained when I created the one for Talespin Source (which took me around 10 hours to make - yes, making a good style DOES take time) :

If you'd like to submit a design, just send a picture of your design. You can use any software you want to make it (Photoshop, Gimp, Photofiltre...)
 
It must be "based" on the model I have given above. (meaning that the elements should be at the same place and with the same dimensions) You must only provide a picture.
 
I will only select members who can make styles "on par" with the current sites styles! Quality over quantity!

Some advices :

- Use a "professional" picture editing software, such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or The Gimp. Why? Especially because these have possibility to manipulate layers, which are extremely important.

- Respect the model given (there are some levels of "freedom", although I will explain more precisely later - for now, just try to globally stick to the model...)

- Respect the sizes : width especially - you can expand heights if you want.

- Keep your "working files" (PSD files for Photoshop, for example) : if you get chosen, the style you submitted may be effectively used for the site that will be created. But it may have to be modified, so keep everything you used to make it!

 

Why should I do this?

The entries submitted will help to choose members who will get permissions to making the sites.

I have set up a very far deadline, but I will choose members progressively, when I think you are up to the job.

What types of sites can I suggest?

In the past, I suggested doing only traditional animated films. Then, I progressively accepted CGI films and modern animated films.

I am now opening the possibility to make new sites of any film or series you'd like, as long as it's animated!

So, anything from western to japanese (Dragon Ball, Naruto...) to european (Asterix, Tintin ...) can be accepted, as well as any form of animation (claymation / stop motion, computer generated, drawings).

JerseyCaptain, I am GLAD you asked. Code Lyoko is a French cartoon, originating in 2001 in France and eventually making its way to Spain, the United States, and the Chinese Banned Shows list by 2004. In the united States, Code Lyoko ran on Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2007. It ran for four seasons before the story concluded, and then, in 2012, France began a new project called Code Lyoko Evolution, picking up a few weeks after Code Lyoko left off. While only one episode of Evolution has made it through a dub center, I've seen the entire season personally. The revival of Code Lyoko via Evolution is only just picking up, so I predict that it will reach maximum popularity in about two years, where it will sit until everyone is sick of it but doesn't want to admit it, like so much Invader Zim.

I definitely don't want to be a buzzkill here, but shouldn't source creation be limited to animated movies or series which are routinely very well-known and popular currently? "Code Lyoko"? What the heck even IS that?

I've got a show in mind; however, the latest season is only half animated. If I were to want this show as a source, I would simply have to exclude the non-animated season, correct?

I just submitted my two theme proposals for an Avatar Source. It was hard to choose which characters to feature per tab, so I decided to have an Aang Theme and a Korra Theme. Both themes share their color design and build, but feature difference characters for the tabs and background. I am open to any suggestions and modifications required.

I have submitted an updated version of my Over the Hedge Source design. Here are the changes I made: * The background is now green instead of green so it blends with the foreground. * More shading has been added behind the text to stand out more. * A minor issue with the hedge texture has been fixed. * Some characters in the menu section graphics have be repositioned, including a new graphic featuring The Verminator. * Menu section graphics for "Advertisement" and "Buy the DVD" have been created. * The SITE_ROUND and SITE_ROUND_HOVER graphics have been added. The cookie graphic is the cookie shoutbox emoticon made by MightyBalto1925, and I have used it with her permission. * Borders added to menu section graphics. * Graphics changed to JPEG files, except for the menu section graphics which are PNG files. Hope you guys like my work so far. If any more changes are required, feel free to inform me.

Steet - As you can see, Mightybalto1925 submitted the layout design for Minions Source. She and -Legolas10- worked really hard on this one! The two of them, and myself, have been coordinating on this project, and I would like to be added in as a content (info) builder. Both of them, I am sure, wish to be graphics builders for the source. Though I don't know whether or not either of them wish to also be info builders (they may have to chime in on that). I am starting work on info for the page, if you approve it for building.

Sofi => Do you mean : creating a design using screenshots to get pictures of the characters/backgrounds? The answer is yes, that's usually how it's done. If you mean just sending plain screenshots without anything else... probably not. That's not really site building. (even if it has to be done at some point)

So, I sent the Little Mermaid Source for my entry, since that was my whole life when I was younger. Unfortunately, the file was too big to send the full size, so I had to make it smaller, but I still have the regular size on a different file.

I've been encouraged, by a few others, to try this again. To stick with it and at least TRY. To join the contest, along with my layout design person, and give it our best shot. And to hope that we'll be given a fair chance. So, while I will reveal nothing of the source plan I am working on, I will rejoin this, get my text work done, and submit when my layout person is similarly ready to do so. Then we'll see what comes of that.

Um, sorry to throw this in here, but I just feel it is necessary to clarify one thing, because my context was obviously misinterpreted: I don't care about what is allegedly "wrong" with me (because this is not about ME, it is about two people who need to get to the point of resolving a difference, and my getting tired of being the only one to actually try). I care about no horrid mischaracterizations and rushed bans over things which could be solved with a little sacrifice...on BOTH sides, and some intelligent dialogue, rather than perpetuating this stupid, childish hatred. I presume any intelligent person would see that as a good thing. However, just needed to clarify that one point. Part of your last statement necessitated this. Had you not said that, I would have had nothing else to say here. However, that's all that I needed to say. Moving on now.

Animation Source is not hardly my whole life, Nakou. You obviously don't know me very well if you think I spend every waking moment here (or nearly so). I want, expect and insist upon fair treatment. As any member would. I hoped, perhaps foolishly, that sooner or later I'd receive it. You haven't the length of time as a member of this site, nor the intimate understanding of all the unpleasantness that has happened here over time, to be able to speak on it with any degree of authority. So, instead of us beating a dead horse, since we've each spoken on it, how about we DROP it now? Or are you trying to get me upset enough to where you think I'll say something touchy enough to justify some punitive action? Time to move on. We've both said what we have to say. Again, you've said nothing that offers anything of value to me, nor which I put any credence in.

I have to confess I'm just being honest with you and what your attitude inspires me, even if you find it rather aggressive, what I can understand. But I'm not judging you with my past impressions, I'm judging you with my current ones. I'm perhaps a child, but Animation Source doesn't seem to be my whole life. I work a lot on that site, but I'm not saying all the time how much I'm a victime because some people hurted me (and it has arrived actually). If I can understand that, I'm not seeing the efforts you claimed, as you're always just playing the perfect victim and saying how bad people are. It's just like you'll never change, cause you're too pride of yourself to realize you can be wrong. With all the things you said about Steet, do you really think he wants to give you a chance? With all the things you say about the mods, do you really think they'll like you or trust you? I don't think an egomaniac is someone who refuse to give rights to the first who ask, because he asks again and again... I think the egomaniac is the one talking about himself for years and who think the whole world except some people is wrong, and that he's the leader Animation Source was waiting to be freed from the tyrannical Steet! But you shouldn't think people can't have their own opinion - I don't see which former member you're talking about at all �.o It's true for Skype - people use it as a communication tool. But I already have many people on it, and I personally want to use it in a different way. Anyway, it seems nothing will never change. "*I* tried". Incidentally, I find it unconscionable of you to infer that I had unwholesome motives for asking for your Skype contact info. That was an honest and up-front desire to talk to you, hoping it would generate results with steet. I had NO darker motives than that. And it can only be your immaturity and conceit which would have you now using that against me as some sort of barb. Shame on you for doing so. Skype is a communication tool. For more than just "friends". If you use it that way, so be it. But people use it for more communication applications than just chatter between friends.

Nakou, I have to be honest here: You're a kid. And you haven't liked me since a certain unnamed former member started creating a lot of flame wars and politics between members about me, which he drew you into. So really, I don't have any interest in what you have to say. It doesn't hold water for me now, and it never has. I don't place any value on your opinions or observations. But to answer your incredulity, I have TRIED to stay here because I have things of value to offer and, in spite of attitudes like yours, I have friends here who would like me to stay. And I refuse to be driven away by those who seem hell-bent on bullying and teasing me and grinding me under the ban heel every time I express my frustration. There was a time when I could contribute without all this nonsense, and I have been TRYING to convince steet to allow me to have that opportunity again. That is not something you have any business stepping into the middle of. I have tried several times to extend an olive branch to steet, and to try to ask to contribute again. It's he who's knocked it away with a callousness that is all too typical of him. I find it ironic and amusing how you talk about how self-centered I am, and yet several staffers AND non-staffers have known very well how I've tried to get steet to come to the proverbial table and wipe any differences between us CLEAN, and to start fresh. They've even tried on my behalf. They've always been met with stone silence or bad attitude...from him. Not me. Seems to me that the self-centered attitude doesn't lay with me. I expressed my frustration here initially because I have been TRYING to make headway with steet. HE refuses to take those steps. Or to give me a chance. His response here is evident of that. Even when I actually had a fan artist, who's also a member here, willing to work with me on my own contribution (I'll leave that person's name out of it, so they don't get dragged into this), even when I was close to finishing my submission, steet's response was: "I don't think you'd accept to build a site and then not participate in its life as member on that site, which is why I'm not very willing to give it a try." So not only has he jumped to an erroneous and foolish conclusion, but he is unwilling to even give anything else I'd submit a try. That sounds pretty selfish from where I'm sitting. And I've seen reactions from several people already, who refuse to risk being banned (as I probably will be for speaking up again), in order to speak in my support. Because that always ends bad for them even when they do want to help. It's ridiculous that it has gotten to this point. And pathetic. I didn't need to be, and it could have played out MUCH differently. *I* tried.

"What people say about me" blablabla... And how you always play the victim! x) If you think Steet is a so awful webmaster, why are you still here? It is his creation, he can do what he wants with it. Create your own, JC, if you think you can do better (And by the way, how fun to see how much you want my Skype instead of PMs, while talking would be the same. Skype is just for friends, what you're not. I was open to discussion, it seems you're not).
