When I first saw Spirit, I went to the theater twice the same day to see it. Now, about nine years later, I am still obsessed with the movie. I just thought it was an awesome movie before because it had to do with animated horses, but now, I realize that there is much more too it. The way the characters look so "realistic". As in their not just actual fake looking horses, they have the quality of animated and real-life horses. The way the animators mixed the two together was fantastic, they each had muscles that would show in the correct places when the character walked, trotted, cantered, or galloped, or just standing still. Each character had their own unique design and personality. That actually brings up another topic. The way the characters facial expressions changed to show how they felt was absalutely amazing. Also, throughout the whole movie, the music that played also helped explain how they felt. Like the train scene."Sound the bugle now, tell them I dont care, theres not a road I know, that leads to anywhere" Just the first sentence of the song helps explain how Spirit felt, that he wanted to go home, and he wanted to see his mother and his herd again, but he could'nt let them all down, he had to stand up again, and fight.
Also, the suspense is very intensifying. When Spirit is being captured, when he is being broken by the Colonel, you should be on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen to the challenging stallion.A very good example to think about for suspense, would be when Spirit throws the Colonel, and is about to be shot....when Little Creek jumps in and saves the day, not just to save himslef, but to save Spirit. They gallop out, trampling over Murphy, and just when you think he is free, the suspense comes back, and once again, Spirit is captured.
With the music helping the animated characters along the way to get Spirit back to his Homeland, and the friendship between human and horse, I would absalutely, any day, rate this movie a 10.
