The truth of Balto is being stretched to where it

We all want a Balto 4. But let's be honest about this...

Lena_Wolf :

Hey. Now before I even start this article I want to say something. Any comment that goes in here that is offensive about my article will be taken out. My article is for my opinion. I am just speaking my words and you cannot go against them because well, they belong to me. If I don't like something I say, I won't say it. Simple as that. So, if I want to speak my mind in a orderly manner and make it as less offensive as I possibly can, I think you should do the same for my comments. If you wish to not say something nice, please, leave this article immediately and don't say anything at all. It will save your time. And it will save my time by not having to read a rude comment that was sent for no reason. Thank you. :)

Balto, as we all know is a wonderful and heart touching story. But, was making sequals going a little too far?

The first Balto was wonderful and told the Balto story like it was suposed to be told, and it was truthful about the real story about the real dog, Balto, who used to exist. That one got good reviews and was a hit and is known even today. But the sequals were made up. Not part of the truth. Which means we have stretched the truth. Which doesn't seem right to me. I love Balto, and I would never want his truth of his magnificent true story be stretched to where it is not true. And that is exactly what the people who made the sequals did. I know we can't get rid of them but it just seemed unfair to do and not right. And now we might be making a Balto 4? This isn't right to me....

We all have liked the sequals but if you really stop and think about it, maybe you will see what I am seeing and realize what these people have done. I understand if you are still against me. Just trying to speak my mind. Thank you.

You're right. By the way, because I am a wolf FANATIC, I'm always looking for something wilfish that suits me. I went to Universal Studios, Orlando, and I was depressed to find that they STILL hadn't put in ANYTHING about Balto. Not even a picture or something. No rides, nothin'. Hmph!

Nice one...By the way Balto was black with two white front paws and he had a white mark on his chest.

Actually I had the same opinion as you before I read this article. I personaly think the creators stretched the truth A LOT I mean what are the chances that a half-wolf half-dog is going to have a foster dad as a russian snow goose or live on an abondandond boat...in Alaska...with a blanket that can keep a wolfdog warm. I'm just saying if someone is going to make a Balto movie they should try to make it historicaly correct by saying that Balto originaly was NEVER a lead dog... it's just that BALTO WAS THE ONLY DOG ON HIS MUSHER'S TEAM THAT COULD GET HOME in a snowstorm, when the real lead dog was injured and was riding on a sled. It took Balto's musher a while to realize that Balto was the only dog on the team (that wasn't injured) that could get th anti-toxin, his musher and his teammates back to Nome to save not only the children, but many adults, and his team home. I mea honestly someone shold remind Universal Studios that you should NOT stretch the truth too much. Making a Balto 4 and trying to be historocaly correct is going to almost impossible for the person that's writing the storyline. I feel sorry for that person.:icon60: :icon60: :howl:

Ok, all I will say is that some people actually enjoy sequels, and that rarely ever are sequels to originals that are based on true stories are true too.

Right on! Actually, there shouldn't be a sequel for ANY movie that
isn't based on a book. Otherwise they just wanted to make some profit
on a stupid little movie that a two year old could come up with a plot
line.

Actually, the first movie stretched the truth of the serum run a great
deal. The only things which are accurate in that first movie are:

1. It is winter (it was actually January 27 to February
2)

2. There was a blizzard in the latter half of the
run

3. Nome was struck by a diphtheria epidemic

4. Balto lead a team during what was actually a RELAY

5. The emergency was announced by telegraph

6. The
serum (or a small, initial quantity of it) was sent north to Nenana by
rail, and then picked up and carried east to Nome (but by twenty dog
teams, not just one)

----Conversely, there are a plethora of
INaccuracies, including:

1. Balto as a brown-gray wolf
dog (he was a black Siberian husky with white socks and bib, and white
markings around the tip of his muzzle)

2. Balto siring puppies (in real life, he was neutered as a puppy, and could
not have sired any puppies)

3. Balto did not heroically
go out searching for a lost team led by a dog named Steele (who was a
work of utter fiction)...he was placed in the lead of a team by his
human musher

4. These characters, from the first movie
are fictional: Steele, Nikki, Kaltag, Doc, Morse, Jenna, Boris, Muk,
Luk, Dixie, Sylvie, Rosy (and her parents), the white wolf, and the
musher of Steele's team

5. The serum was carried in a
"packet", wrapped in a fur skin, which contained small ampules. It
was not transported in a wooden box containing large bottles.

6. The musher of Balto's team was actually a 21-year old
Norwegian named Gunnar Kaasen, not a middle-aged bearded guy who raced
his team.

7. Balto's boat is fictional (there is a old
wooden tugboat sitting out at the Fort Davis Roadhouse southeast of
the real town of Nome, approximately at the same distance from the
modern town as Balto's boat was from the cartoon Nome. However, this
boat - the "Helen W" did not exist in 1925, the year of the serum run,
and it is pointed in the opposite direction...away from town).

8. None of the incidents shown in the cartoon movie, which
the team has to deal with on the run up from, or back to, Nome really
happened. However, other harrowing adventures did.

I
liked the sequels. Balto 3 much more than Balto 2. And actually,
while Balto 3 is a work of fiction, the ideas and concepts presented
there are quite historically accurate. The bush plane, and its threat
to dog sledding as a means of carrying mail are very plausible.
Though there is no way a real dog sled team would have beat a real
bush plane in a race (though they would not have been able to fly one
in the winter. Those biplanes had open cockpits and water-cooled
engines, which made them utterly unreliable in winter. Until the
technology advanced in the later 1920s and early 30s, mail was still
carried at times by dog sled teams).

yes, i agree with you wolf_girl_772, but i think that if they make
Balto 4 with great animation, and they start winning lots of money,
they would do more and more sequels and balto would become another LBT
(i've always loved wolves and huskies too by the way)

Hmmm, this makes sense. The sequels are nice to have but it would have
been nice if they put some more of Balto's real story. A B4 would be
great, but that's just me because I've always LOVED wolves and
huskies. But I think they probably would want to make it with better
animators than they did the OTHER two sequels, don't you think?
Anyway, good article!

If they did make another sequel, perhaps it could be about
Balto being bought and going on tour, like it tells us in
the documentary with the original's DVD. For a start, Balto
couldn't have pups anyway, like another article points out,
so the two sequels are completely made up. As for WQ, it
depends on your opinion on 'shamanism'.

balto didnt save everyone on his own he did have help and
thats why im kinda mad because at the end they only
congraduate balto even though the others helped too
Balto 2 was ok and Balto 3 wasnt that great and they
kept adding new characters just stick to your main story and
add only a few characters and they forgot to use some of the
important characters like Rosie were was she in 2 and 3?
well thats my conclusion... for now

I agree, but for different reasons, I need closure. Balto 4
in my opinion should have Balto *swallow* die. Giving the
story closure.

Completely agreed. I think sequels were a dumb idea. If they
just couldn't suppress the urge to make yet another balto
sequel, they could have at least spent time on a decent
story and art especially. Maybe I'm biased because I
honestly can't stand sequels (unless they're for movies like
Toy Story or Shrek where it's all just fun and there doesn't
really have to be any story) mostly because they're almost
always a level below the original. That might sound dumb
because obviously, it's not the original, but if they can't
make something just as good then why bother ruining the
original story? Balto was smart and quirky with talented
actors portraying their voices and a realistic story with no
sing alongs unlike so many disney films which made it feel
real and not a 'kid cartoon.'

Aaaand i don't
mean to sound so negative haha i just wish they'd left balto
alone, it's my favorite animated film and when i watch the
sequels just to see what they could possibly be about, i
can't help cringe at the bad animation and just over all
story line and dialogue. To me it's like someone having
drawn a masterpiece, a beautiful piece of art, then some
crummy doodle and stuck it in their gallery as part of a
series.

So yeah. I totally agree with you.
haha

I think they should have jst left it
alone. In the end I try to forget about two and three

Well, I'm saying that it okay if there's sequils. We all
know it didn't really happen. Most people just like the
sequils. That way, your not at an edge. No offebce, but that
start in your post was mean. Your saying we can't put our
opinion, we have to say your right. And trustt me, continue
doin' that, and soon you might be banned. You don't want
that. The sequils, I know, are not real. But they are just
for fun. Every one enjoys them. With all the mony they made
for B1, they made a sequil just for fun. The sequils arn't
based on facts, yes, but they are made for enjoyment. So,
don't bother them. If you want some facts, make your own fic
on how you would make B2. And you have to remember, you
can't delet a comment. Only the poster or a mod can delet
them. And besides, the sequils are rated Pg and G. Think 3 year olds would injoy seeing Balto ans a living fur scelleton?

Thank you again and Canis Lupus, if I do recall, you are
semi true but Universal did get a lot of good reviews on
Balto 1 because it was almost like a Disney movie. and
Disney makes tons of movies like Balto. I'm not saying it is
fully true but I do believe some people if I talked to them
would believe Balto was made by Disney. and therefor Balto
was watched by tons of childeren and has made it to be a
classic tale of a dog. And classic movies is very much
Disney like. Don't know if that makes much sense but yeah.
Thanks anyway though!

Whilst the original movie did stay quite true to the true
story, it did stray from it quite a bit (the real Balto was
not half wolf). I don't see what's so wrong with sequels
though, because they're still good kids films.

Just so you know, the original film actually did not get
good reviews or success when it came. Great article though!

Univarsal made sequels because they wanted the money, but
they didn't got what they expect. (no doubt...) so they
stopped making sequels, which, is a good dicision to me.

butttttttt, Aren't we making Balto4 as a fanmovie?
no... fanTRAILER?

just a fanfiction, man. don't
get stressed.

making them, I just don't like how they were made. Anyway,
thanks!

You're absolutly right. Balto (1) was simply fantastic and
an amzing movie. Balto 2 was pretty good, okay, but the
first was still better, the third movie...honestly, I didn't
like it. Bush planes, no Aniu, no wolf stuff, it didn't seem
anything like the first two movies, it didn't relate to
their plots at all, and that what I disliked most. The plot
seemed boring to me and I found some of the characters
annoying. Now this is my opinion, so everyone else if free
to say what they wish.

I agree with Rex. Balto 4 didn't realy become successful at
first, so they decided to make Balto: The series. And yes,
Universal was short on money and their budget was small. But
you do bring up a very good point.
