Well I really like background songs in movies. On that I agree with you, Troll. Those are much different, and can be very effective. Examples would certainly include:

Flying Dreams, from The Secret of NIMH

the native Alaskan chant from Balto 2: Wolf Quest

the native African chants from The Lion King

...etc.

Background or foreground, I think it depends on how well the song meshes with the movie overall. I'm a lyrics person myself, so accoustics-only songs like "Courage Under Fire" (from Courageous) don't do it quite as much for me. I realize that it's harder for songs with character involvement to do that, so I guess the ones you listed are a good middle ground.

I guess it was a decent song. Seemed sort of fitting, but much like the 2nd movie, it sort of came out of no where. Sure it's OK, and at least they got Jodi Benson to sing it, not someone else. But still, I wasn't real all for it. If they were going to do a musical, then that's what it should have been, with everyone singing. Having characters just randomly burst into song sort of throws me off of the movie, even if it is an animated film.

But of course, that's just my opinion. If others like it, then that's fine by me. :)

Oh, and just for those of you that don't know, Bridget Fonda can actually sing.
Found that out the hard way.
Here's is a clip from one of the movies she's been in, sort of an underrated movie called Finding Graceland.

Yes, that's definitely her.
