Shun is a strategist, his main appearance would never tell that he’s a warrior but his fine mind always make him the winner of a challenge of any kind (at least in his pack), because his opponents, thinking of him as a weak, don’t expect his strength to be his smart and strategic mind, as they normally judge from the outside, from the look. He isn’t the kind of guy that believes to rumors, superstitions or tales and he can easily say if someone is telling a lie, he believes in what he sees, in proofs, he has to study the situation, doesn’t matter what it is and he believes that there’s a rational explanation for everything. Shun is also a very loyal and honest dog but he feels very insecure about the fact that he is the heir of his father’s pack and, even if he has all that a good leader needs, every conversation that is centered on this argument (even if he’s not the main subject, like if they’re talking about another pack), causes him stress and he ignores what is been said.
Likes/Dislikes:
When everything is at peace and there are no problems around, Shun can relax. He really likes control and order but not in a negative way: he likes when everybody cooperate and when pack ranks actually work, without the ones in the higher ranks picking on the lowest. He likes spring and sometimes, with the excuse of a lone hunt, he gets down in the valley where some cherry trees were planted and admired them from afar. What Shun doesn’t like is to be pointed as the next successor of the pack, just because his mother was “good”, he loves his half brother very much and believes that it’s him the rightful future leader. When his half brother needs to talk, Shun’s always available for him and likes to see that Sora trusts him. Shun too despise those who keep picking on Sora and those who always remind him about his mother, Sylena. They are a pack, there shouldn’t be any prejudices!
History:
Shun’s birth was rather unexpected and, if you ask, not wanted and not planned. His father, Kurimutora, was the leader of a pack in the mountains of Hokkaido. He already had a mate, a female called Sylena who was madly in love with him and who was the daughter of a neighbor’s pack leader. The two dogs’ union sealed the union of their packs too, better an union than an useless war, like the island’s ruler, Hakuro, agreed of too. After a year from this union, Shun’s mother joined the pack. She was a small reddish Shikoku who had completely lost her memory, she couldn’t remember from where she was from, what had happened to her, even what her name was. She didn’t look like a threat for the pack and so, she was welcomed to join, much to Sylena’s unhappiness. The pack called her Ushina (Ushinawareta means “lost”) since she needed a name. Kurimutora was the leader and it was his duty to make all the new members (pups, dogs that just joined) learn the ways of the pack and their territory. The two began to spend a lot of time together and Sylena disliked this, even if it was a common thing for the leader to spend time with the new recruits. To be honest, Kurimutora was starting to have feelings toward Ushina and so, he neglected his former mate and newborn son: Sylena had infact given birth to one healthy son that they called Sora but father and son spent little time together.
After some months, Kurimutora and Ushina were in love but their secret was soon public when Ushina announced to be pregnant, news that turned Sylena completely mad. Ushina gave birth to four puppies and, when Sylena knew that they were born, she attacked: she got into the den, killed the puppies and broke Ushina’s neck in front of everyone. She thought the pups were three but Shun was hidden in a hole by Ushina when she saw Sylena getting in the den with her teeth showing. She wanted to hide all of them but was only able to do it with Shun. Of course, Kurimutora and Hakuro banished her and she was never seen again. Shun was took care from another female but he still grew not strong and bulky like some other dogs, more slim and not really tall, like his mother was. Kurimutora gave all his attentions to him and Shun noticed how his half brother Sora was being ignored by everyone, it was a miracle they’d let him eat.
Sora left after a while, when Shun was almost a year old. He wanted to her his brother better but didn’t had the chance. Shun stayed in the pack and was taught by his father the ways a leader should behave. They travelled very often to meet Hakuro and his pack, so the Siberian Husky would already know who the future leader would be. Shun befriended one of Hakuro’s sons, Suzaku: the two promised to always come in the other’s aid if help was needed, in every situation. Shun, after his training was done, decided to help his father with the job and asked if he could become the pups’ trainer. He knew what he had to do and maybe he and other older members could be the teachers, instead of making the leader do everything. Pack members help each others. Kurimutora accepted this with pleasure but none of the other dogs wanted to be teachers, all but one, a silver Akita called Alejandro. The two began to train the youngsters.
One night, a German Shepherd arrived to the pack with his daughter, a puppy, asking if they could stay, since their pack had been slaughtered and they were the only survivors. The father, Eiji, quickly became Kurimutora’s right hand and Shun was allowed to train his daughter, Leila. Together, they saved a young Kai puppy with a missing eye, Juntora who joined the pack and trained under Alejandro’s eyes.
A year after Sora returned. Shun didn’t know how to approach him so, he asked Suzaku’s help, considering the husky had many brothers. Suzaku suggested to go easy, considering he wasn’t the nicest of dogs, but try to have small conversations. Shun did so and he and Sora became close, like two brothers should be.
When some mysterious deaths began to hit all the island’s packs, Sora told Shun to have an idea of who might be behind all of this: a dog named Vaal. Shun and Leila were the only one to believe him. Sora and Leila had to travel to Ohu in need of help but, after that Vaal had apparently killed Sora, it was Shun who became the voice between Ohu and Hokkaido.
Relation to the Ginga universe:
His pack is allied with Hakuro's and he often visited Sora's pack, with him and Kurimutora being friends by now. He and Hakuro’s son, Suzaku, are close friends. He was forced to travel to Ohu to talk with Gin and Weed’s dogs, asking for help, finding a good mentor in Akame and Gin. Leila is also a granddaughter of Kichinosuke, one of Kisaragi’s sons and Alejandro is the son of Tokimune.
