Welcome to Ice Age Source!

Ice Age was released in March 2002 as a computer-animated movie distributed by 20th Century Fox, and made by Blue Sky Studios. Blue Sky was contracted as the “saviour” of Fox’s animated releases to make the film, following the collapse of Fox Animation Studios and its financial failure of Titan A.E. This last chance given to the studio proved the final product to be an outright a critical and financial success, along with an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. the success of Ice Age ensured a secure future for Blue Sky, and the movie launched a successful animated franchise, joining the competition with rivals like DreamWorks and Pixar.

If the computer animation of the film seems to look “dated” today compared to more recent CGI flicks, then Ice Age was premium for its originality. Combining a very unusual trio along with a completely psychotic squirrel known as Scrat, the film gradually bonds an unusual friendship between a grumpy mammoth named Manny, a lazy sloth of bad luck called Sid, and a sabre-toothed tiger called Diego as a guide during their journey to bring a baby stolen by a clan of tigers, while his father was hunting. During their journey, these characters will discover and learn to appreciate each other, which could change many things...

This was the first animated feature made by Blue Sky Studios, with Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha directing the film, and David Newman composing the music. Although there are no original songs in the score, the song “Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root is often considered the emblematic theme of the film.

Following the major success of the film, it spawned four theatrical sequels: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown in 2006, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 2009, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift in 2012, and a fifth movie scheduled for 2016. Each sequel pushed the visuals further than their predecessor, enriched themselves with new characters, and added new challenges for each of the main characters. The sequels have proven to be extremely popular among worldwide audiences.

Robin Hood Source rising!

Hullo there!  Been down about all the inactivity on Animation Source lately?

Then I have some good news for you!  Over on Robin Hood Source, we've begun an effort at expanding and revamping existing material (or the lack thereof).  It all started with an original request by site boosters Windhowler and XPennydisneyloverx to help them update the existing official character pages, and to add ones for the remaining official characters which were never done.  For a while, nobody seemed very interested in helping, so I volunteered and, with the help of [...]

New teaser - Illumination invites us to "Sing"

While the fine folks at Illumination Entertainment prepare the release of The Secret Life of Pets, more animated features have been in the works in the company’s Santa Monica and Paris studios including Despicable Me 3 for 2017, and one for this year’s Christmas. The latter is simply known as Sing, which has just been given a teaser trailer for us to get a taste of what’s to come.

Just like The Secret Life of Pets, this one also involves cartoon animals. But instead, they are the anthropomorphic kind that are similar to Disney’s Zootopia. The premise of [...]

Inside Out wins big at Annie Awards

Pixar’s Inside Out was the movie that brought the studio back to the spot light, and now stands as one of the most critically-loved animated features of the decade. It was no surprise that Pixar would get a lot of accolades for this film, but it became the big stand out at ASIFA-Hollywood’s annual Annie Awards where it won almost all the feature film categories.

Inside Out was this year's big winner at the Annie Awards.

Inside Out took home ten of the eleven feature film awards including Best Animated Feature. The only exceptions being Best Animated [...]
